With a background in interior design, Patti Jordan began retailing antiques and vintage goods in 1994 to help pay her daughter's college education. As the business grew, three store fronts on Lorain Avenue were needed to store the growing collection of case goods, soft furniture, decorative items, theater fixtures, outdoor Victorian gating, garden goods, and other items that could be re-styled and given a new lease on life. In 2000 Patti moved punchjordan - Divine Finds & Interiors to Rocky River, Ohio where she and her daughter Lindsay, in addition to an assembly of artists and upholsterers, delight their customers with a fresh approach to home décor. We visited with Patti recently, and listened as she offered this description of punchjordan's services and offerings;
punchjordan is a design firm and studio born of an appreciation for every style. Our vision starts with classic and traditional pieces that we often re-interpret and re-style with a modern eye. Our clients come to punchjordan because they do not want typical, high-handed decorating, but prefer furniture designed as a bridge between contemporary and traditional perceptions. punchjordan is the juxtaposition of old and new, giving new life to old pieces by defying expectations and placing a fresh spin on tradition.
We offer a very eclectic mix by a no nonsense, no rules decorating team. Our on-staff artist designs a wide variety of decorative surfaces, ranging from walls and furniture to outdoor creations. My area of specialization is coordinating textiles and paint to blend opposites together dramatizing the combination of old and new, funky and fine. We encourage our clientele to not be intimidated by design, but to follow their own instincts by using items they already have and simply adding to them. We also operate a retail gallery, carrying new and vintage items I find that are both divine and cool.
We specialize in re-styling goods that were striking when they were new and still have life in them. For example, we have a baby grand piano in the shop that we use to demonstrate our concept of restoring a classic piece of furniture. We have taken the sound board and interior out of it, and our upholstery team upholstered the body of the piano. Then our artist lacquered and decoratively painted the top to go along with a fabric we chose for the exterior. With this piece we are showing the combination of using textiles with paint techniques to recreate a piece we have called a "piano bar". If you place a couple bar stools beside it, it becomes a fantastic centerpiece suitable for a great room.
punchjordan is a place of inspiration where you can find new approaches to your décor needs. One of our favorite techniques is to utilize high end soft furniture, such as sofas and chairs that have been well used. We re-stying them to provide a new look. We incorporate designer fabrics, refresh the frame, and the with the addition of pillows or button tufting create a one-of-a-kind look that is a perfect accent for your home.
